THE COVENANT
The Covenant was born from a shared passion for jazz and friendship. Producer, mentor, and artist John Lumpkin II brought the band together in 2015, gathering a close-knit group of like-minded musicians: Joshua Bowlus (piano), DeAndre Lettsome (Alto Sax), Nicholas Russell (Guitar), Tori Peoples (vocalist), and Thomas Milovac (Upright Bass) in Jacksonville, Florida. What started as late-night jam sessions quickly grew into something more significant - a band dedicated to pushing jazz forward while carrying the message of love, hope, and acceptance through the struggles of humanity. With a sound rooted in swing, fusion, and blues, the sextet brings a fresh and soulful energy to every performance. From intimate jazz clubs to festival stages, The Covenant is building a reputation for electrifying performances and deep musical chemistry. Showcasing a dynamic mix of original compositions and bold reimaginings of traditional jazz standards. At its core, the band is about connection - between musicians, audiences, and the ever-evolving spirit of jazz. Whether on stage or in the studio, they bring passion, spontaneity, and a deep respect for the music that brought them together.

LATEST SET

The Spiritual Side of Duke" is a presentation of some of Duke Ellington's Sacred Works, Hymns, and Negro Spirituals. This has been executed with the John Lumpkin Trio and can be performed with a larger ensemble. The Sacred Works were described by Duke as "One of his best works", and I was privileged to carry on his music about the gospel.
